Membership Questions

1. I've never been a member of a church, but I'm interested in joining. What's my first step?

The first step in being a member of FBC is to be a follower of Jesus Christ. In order to be a follower of Jesus, you need to repent and be saved from your sins. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God, and faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment to Him as Lord and Savior.

The next step is to publicly declare your faith in Christ and your desire to unite with FBC. We offer this opportunity at the end of each worship service. The pastor will extend an invitation for people to join the church. Just come forward and share your desire with him.

The final step is baptism. We believe baptism (immersion in water) is an outward sign of an inward reality – our identity in Christ, who died on the cross, was buried and rose again. The pastor will discuss this with you and set a date for baptism shortly after you express your desire to join the church.

2. I'm currently a member of another Baptist church. How do I transfer my membership?

Members of other Baptist churches may transfer their membership at any Sunday morning service during the invitation time. We will receive your information and contact your previous church. Your previous church will send a letter confirming your membership there, and we will handle the transfer of membership. This is commonly known as joining “by letter.”

3. I'm currently a member of another denomination. What should I do first in transferring my membership?

Christians who are members of another denomination may join FBC by statement of faith. This can be done at the invitation time at the end of any worship service. All we require is baptism by immersion. Those who have not been baptized by immersion would need to do so before the membership can be confirmed. Any of our pastors would be glad to explain the Scriptural basis and process for this.

4. Why should I become a member of FBC?

Joining a church is both an act of obedience to God and a personal decision. There are many churches in Prattville, each unique, yet with a common goal of worshiping God, sharing the gospel message, and equipping people for service. First Baptist Church is a large church and offers many opportunities to worship, serve and grow in a community of believers. We are a multi-generational church with strong ministries for all age groups. We believe there is a place for you at FBC to connect with others and deepen your faith.

5. I've recently joined FBC. What's next for me?

Your next step is finding a Sunday School class. This is where a large church like FBC becomes a small church. This is how you can meet other Believers, engage in Bible study and discussion and serve. We are happy to help you find the perfect group for you.
